Introducing Andy Levine
October 19, 2022
The Home Tour committee is pleased to have Andy Levine, our new school board member, join us. Andy has already served as a docent on last year’s tour and has helped facilitate several projects that we have initiated. He promises to be as involved and committed to our cause as his predecessor, the late Carol Mills, was.
Andy was born and raised in Fresno and educated by Fresno Unified schools. He attended Powers-Ginsburg Elementary, Computech, and Edison High School. After graduating, he went on to get his undergraduate degree in Sociology at UC Davis, where a mentor inspired him to go back into education as a way to create opportunities for more students and communities. He spent a few years working with a national principal preparation program, New Leaders, before going back to school to earn a Master’s degree in Sociology of Education from Columbia University’s Teachers College.
In 2012, he decided to move back home to Fresno and dedicate his career to bringing diverse communities together to address our communities’ shared needs and concerns. He did that work through Faith in the Valley, a multi-faith coalition of congregations and community-based organizations that together addressed issues such as substandard housing and gun violence.
For the past few years, he has taught in the Sociology Department at Fresno State, where his dad taught for 45 years before him. His mom was a School Psychologist for the Fresno County schools.
We want to welcome Andy and look forward to working with him as we continue to support Fresno High and the neighborhood surrounding it.
