2025 Student Scholarship and Garden Awards Social
September 05, 2025
We were pleased to again hold our Awards Social at Things Reimagined at 1434 N. Van Ness. We are so grateful to Doug Middleton for donating this space for a second year. The venue is even more beautiful than it was last year and was perfect for our event. Beginning at 6 everyone was treated to appetizers donated by Moto Delicatessen.
Scholarship winners were able to meet scholarship sponsors; several students even brought family members. Each student was awarded a $500 scholarship although two of the students split a scholarship. In addition, each student received a certificate of recognition from councilwoman Annalisa Perea, a certificate from Congressman Jim Costa and one from State Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula.
We want to thank our scholarship donors: Andy Levine, Annalisa Perea, Dr. Joaquin Arambula, Megan Thompson, Ampersand, Sam Mills, Kuppa Joy, CMT (Children’s Musical Theaterworks), the Fresno High Alumni Association and an anonymous donor.
The scholarship winners were:
- Tori Long scholarship (creative arts): Leslie Prado ($500)
- CMT (Children’s Musical Theaterworks—drama): Alexis Rodriguez ($500)
- McAlexander scholarship (Most Improved): John Harris ($500)
- Heinlein Award (avid reader): Alina Marie Selier and Amberlee Kuzomitis ($250 each)
- Foley Award (Botany and landscaping): Georgia Woody ($500)
- Carol Mills award: Omar Caro ($500)
- Alumni Sports Award: Nicholas Cervantes ($500)
Student Senate Awards for seniors who have served as docents on the home tour for three or more years:
- Student Senator Bailey Cota ($500)
- Student Senator Emily Epperly ($500)
- Student Senator Camila Martinez ($500)
- Student Senator Margot Munoz ($500)
- Student Senator Tristan Vlahavas ($500)
- Student Senator Skylar Santos ($500)
We were able to give 14 students scholarships this year. This is only possible because of the support from those who attend the home tour each year and the wonderful sponsors and donors. We are grateful to each and every one of them and hope to be able to expand our awards every year.
After the student scholarships were awarded, the winners of the Spring Yard contest were announced. This is the fourth year for the contest and each year our neighbors continue to surprise us with the beauty and uniqueness of their yards. This year’s winners were:
- First place: 554 E. Harvard
- Second place: 2929 N. Harrison
- Third place: 443 E. Yale
Winners received letters of recognition, a gift card donated by Gazebo Gardens and complimentary tickets to this year’s home tour on December 1.
The Awards Social is an event we hope to continue for years to come. It is a perfect way to honor our students and our neighbors while celebrating what makes our neighborhood so special.
