We want to thank all of you who attended this year’s home tour. It was another successful year with almost 300 tour goers attending. We owe a big thanks to the students of Fresno High who served as docents/ambassadors and musicians as well as the City Singers who performed at the OAB. The musical groups all received a small financial reward and the senior students from the Senate at Fresno High will get scholarships in the Spring.
Our group is instrumental in promoting the Fresno High community in several ways. We are responsible for the holiday decorations on the Van Ness and Weldon medians. We also contributed to the lights on the tree at Fresno High’s tree lighting this year. In October we sponsored a Fall/Halloween yard decorating contest and in April we will again sponsor a Spring front yard contest.
One of our main objectives as a group is to support Fresno High; consequently, we give scholarships to students in May for most Improved and most Artistic. We also help students and faculty when they have a special request; for example, we helped provide food to the football team this Fall, which is without a booster club. We also gave funds to the school for Grad Night and bought a Prom bid for a student who could not afford it.
We want our organization to be an important part of promoting the uniqueness of our neighborhood. We worked diligently with Andy Levine, our school board trustee, to replace the tattered banners on Echo with impressive new ones. We are exploring the possibility of placing signs on the lamp posts in the neighborhood that are much like the ones in front of the school. In addition, we are currently working with Beautify Fresno to repaint the lamp posts in the area. Finally we are in discussions with Fresno High and the City of Fresno exploring the idea of Fresno High art students making trashcans and/or benches and a mural for the parklet that is being constructed on Van Ness and Weldon.
We are an all volunteer, non-profit organization made up of neighbors. If you would like to join our group, simple send us an email. We are always looking for volunteers. All of our funds go toward supporting the Fresno High community. We value your support and welcome any donations you would like to make to help us continue to shine a light on our incredibly special community. Next year’s tour will be Monday, December 4.
